Beauty and Skincare Gift Guide 2021: The Best Gadgets, Products, and Tools for Skin Health This Holiday Season

It may be the most wonderful time of year — but all the festivities could have you feeling less than merry. Braving the cold weather, late nights at holiday parties, and indulgent meals with friends and family can wreak havoc on your skin and leave you feeling more no-no-no than ho-ho-ho. But that’s the beauty of gifting (and receiving!) skin-care products, tools, and gadgets during the holiday season.

From TikTok’s cult favorites, like Foreo’s Luna 3 Cleansing Massager, to the most-wanted skin-care treats from brands including Drunk Elephant and Ole Henriksen, here’s your guide to skin-care gifts for the self-care-obsessed

Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence from K-Beauty Brand COSRX makes for a memorable present, thanks to its main ingredient (snail mucin!) and its potential benefits for the skin. Snail mucin contains a number of skin-healthy ingredients like hyaluronic acid — a powerful antioxidant that one past study noted can help bond water to tissue, leaving your skin soft and supple.

Another small study, published in July 2015 in the Korean Journal of Dermatology, suggested that a cream containing 80 percent snail mucin effectively improved skin elasticity, tightened skin, and reduced the appearance of wrinkles after four weeks. (The COSRX product contains 96 percent snail mucin, hence the name.)This product is 100 percent cruelty-free, and no snails are harmed in the making of the product, reports Cruelty Free Only blog. However, as it’s an animal-derived product, it’s not suitable for vegans.

Looking for a beauty tool that’ll fit perfectly in your stocking? Opt for a rose quartz face roller, says Kathleen Cook Suozzi, MD, the director of the aesthetic dermatology program at Yale Medicine and an assistant professor at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. While there’s a lack of scientific research behind these tools, they can really help to de-puff your skin, she says: “If you wake up a little tired or bloated after your holiday party, or you drank too much champagne, you can chill your face roller in the fridge, and then you can roll the puffiness out, helping the lymphatic system remove excess fluids and toxins that collect under the skin.”
